Aloha!
I am Bethany G. Davis, and this is my newsletter about living carelessly in the care of God. For me, that meant stepping away from a corporate career to pursue the possibility of a different calling from God. I am taking a sabbatical and investing five months working with an international missions organization (destination country still TBD). In the meantime, I am writing this newsletter at the request of my coworkers, friends, and family to keep them updated.
“If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.”
—Matthew 6:25–26 (MSG)
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
—Matthew 13:44 (ESV)
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
—Matthew 16:24–26 (ESV)
